Hashgraph The Future of Decentralized Technology

Hashgraph is data structure and consensus algorithm that is:

  • Fast: With a very high throughput and low consensus latency
  • Secure: Asynchronous Byzantine fault tolerant
  • Fair: Fairness of access, ordering, and timestamps

These properties enable new decentralized applications such as a stock market, improved collaborative applications, games, and auctions.

Leemon baird @ harvard

Leemon Baird, Co-Founder/CTO of Swirlds and inventor of Hashgraph, speaks at Harvard Business School, giving a comprehensive overview of the consensus algorithm, while taking questions from the audience of students. Leemon first compares the four generations of blockchain technology and then gives a deeper dive into gossip about gossip and Virtual Voting.

Mance Harmon Interviewed by Epicenter

Hashgraph is a new consensus algorithm that radically differs from proof-of-work as well as proof-of-stake consensus algorithms. While work on Hashgraph begun in 2012, it’s design is radically different from today’s blockchain architectures. The Hashgraph team claims that it has found an optimal consensus algorithm design that will be impossible to significantly improve upon.

We were joined by Mance Harmon, who is CEO of the Swirlds, the company developing Hashgraph. Our conversation covered the origin story of hashgraph, how it compares to existing consensus algorithms and how Hashgraph work

From Bitcoin To Hashgraph: The Crypto Revolution

Excerpt: “The Crypto Revolution: From Bitcoin to Hashgraph is our latest episode of Hidden Secrets of Money. It’s about the evolution of cryptocurrencies and full consensus distributed ledger technology, and how they will change our world. I believe that this video is by far the easiest way for the average person to gain an understanding of what cryptocurrencies are and how they work, but more importantly, the immense power of full consensus distributed ledger technology and the impact it will have on our daily lives. “

The SDK comes with several simple demo apps,  the source code for the demo apps, and documentation for the platform and for how to write apps on it. The source code for the demo apps is also available from the github repository.  The SDK is free for anyone to download and play with. You can even experiment with building applications on it. If you would like to deploy your application, please contact us.

This class will go in depth on what the Swirlds hashgraph system is, and how it works. It will walk you through how to write simple apps and how to use some of the features it provides.

“This is the second installment in a series of interviews, panel discussions, and conversations that Demetri Kofinas has had with the founders of Hashgraph. Hashgraph is a consensus algorithm that appears to have solved the problem of scale in distributed information management. It is a distributed ledger technology that may do for information processing and storage, what TCP/IP and broadband have done for communication. This is a revolution unlike any we have seen since the earliest days of the World Wide Web.” – Hidden Forces

Using Hashgraph for identity

Blockchain technology holds the promise of unlocking tens of billions of dollars of value annually. Some have proposed the use of blockchain for identity applications. However, there are a number of issues with the technology that are still being resolved.

Hashgraph is a radically different approach to distributed consensus. This Hashgraph can resolve scaling and security issues, while providing new abilities that enable new applications of distributed consensus. This talk will compare blockchain and Hashgraph, and describe the implications for identity, and beyond.

Using Hashgraph for IoT

Leveraging distributed consensus algorithms (such as blockchain and Hashgraph), a basic pattern for decentralized identity services has emerged over the past 18 months. Quite often the focus of decentralized identity is on the proposed value it brings to people as a mechanism to help realize ‘self-sovereign identity’. However, decentralized identity may have much broader implications, and some have said that IoT will never reach its potential without decentralized device identity.
